Of all the ways to spend the festive season, nothing beats snuggling into bed and watching a marathon of Christmas movies. Because let’s face it, it’s cold out there! While we all have our favourites, there’s always room for inspiration to festive up your flick list.

We have done our research to help get you well and truly in the mood for a very merry Christmas. Put away those phones and close the laptops, overworking can lead to burnout and never compete with the joy that these Christmas treasures will bring.

Grab some egg nog, pop yourself up on a good pillow and get ready. In no particular order, here are our hand-picked fave Christmas movies to indulge in this season.

1. A Christmas Carol (2009)

Kicking things off with an absolute classic. Charles Dickens’s much-loved story about Ebenezer Scrooge, a mean-spirited old man who hates Christmas, just makes us love it even more. Ebenezer is visited by four different ghosts each with a lesson on how to live a better life and be less of a misery guts. With all the trimmings of Disney animation and a stellar cast, this will leave you feeling stuffed with gratitude for all the simple things in life.

2. The Holiday (2006)

LA, London, Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet. There are four reasons to like it already. When Iris (Kate) and Amanda (Cameron) swap houses just before Christmas to escape their disastrous love lives, romance blossoms in the form of Graham (Jude Law) and Miles (Jack Black) With beautiful settings, from Iris’s dreamy countryside cottage to Amanda’s sunny mansion, this gorgeous story reminds us love can be found in unexpected places. Enjoy every moment, this one feels like it’s over way too fast. A bit like Christmas!

Where to find it? Amazon Prime

Favourite line: “I suppose I think about love more than anyone really should. I am constantly amazed by its sheer power to alter and define our lives.” Iris

IMBD Rating: 6.9

3. The Elf (2003)

Quite possibly Will Ferrell’s best-ever role, this wonderful holiday classic will have you laughing into your mince pies. Buddy (Will) is an overgrown elf who is transported to the North Pole as a toddler by mistake- oops! Realising he doesn’t fit in he travels to New York to find his real Father, a stern businessman who reluctantly starts to build a relationship with his son. This much-loved Christmas classic will make your heart melt and belly hurt with warmth and humour. An oldie, but a goodie.

Where to find it? Amazon Prime

Favourite line: “Does someone need a hug?” Buddy

IMBD Rating: 7.0

4. Love Actually (2003)

Another one about love, though it seems at Christmas we can’t get enough of the stuff. Nine stories set in London explore the tricky emotion that connects us all. Against the backdrop of Christmas, we watch a lively cast, from Hugh Grant to Martine Mccutcheon, navigate their complicated love lives. Or perhaps overcomplicate love in a way only we humans can- you decide. Be prepared, this one will leave you wanting more.

Where to find it? Amazon Prime, Apple TV

Favourite line: “At Christmas, you tell the truth” Mark

IMBD Rating: 7.6

5. Home Alone (1990)

Is it even Christmas without watching this at least once? Eight-year-old Kevin is left to fend for himself when his family accidentally leave him behind over Christmas. What starts as heaps of fun (having the house to himself, limitless pizza and jumping on his parent’s bed) quickly gets out of hand when two burglars try to rob his house on Christmas Eve. If there’s a movie to make you appreciate your family this one is it. They may not be perfect, though you wouldn’t have them any other way.

Where to find it? Disney+

Favourite line: “Mum, does Santa Claus have to go through customs?” Brooke

IMBD Rating: 7.7

So there you have it, you are all set for a thoroughly festive lineup! Hunker down and fill your boots (or stockings if you pardon the pun) with the joy and magic of Christmas, from the cosiest place in the world- bed!

 Happy Snuggling

Cosy and Eco-Friendly Christmas Gifts Everyone Will Love https://pandalondon.com/eco-friendly-christmas-gifts-everyone-will-love/ Wed, 07 Dec 2022 10:13:43 +0000 https://pandalondon.com/?p=174875

‘There is no more extraordinary magic than Christmas’

Oh, don’t you love it? Roasting chestnuts, pretty lights, Christmas movies in your PJ’s… it’s the best time of year. Of course, the relaxation can kick in well after you’ve finished that Christmas shopping list. So many people, so little time. Do not fret; grab yourself a mince pie and unwrap our merry little list of cosy and eco-friendly gifts everyone will love. From the bathroom hoggers beauty sleep lovers to green dreamers, we’ll make sure you put a big smile on all your nearest and dearest faces this year.

What is sustainable gifting?

Sustainable gifting involves having the environment at heart when choosing Christmas gifts. It means taking the time and effort to find eco-friendly brands that create products from natural materials and use recycled packaging to ensure their business practices meet the highest environmental standards. At Panda, we proudly offer an eco-friendly production process from the forest to the front door. Our cosy Bamboo Bedding and home collections are designed to last, minimising consumption and tackling the pressure buying cheaper, convenient products that quickly get thrown away can have on the environment. Another way to implement sustainable gifting is opting for environmentally friendly wrapping paper. Currently, the UK alone uses 227,000 miles of wrapping paper each year. Use reusable bags and choose e-cards over cards ending up in landfills. These small changes can significantly benefit creating a healthier environment, reducing waste and putting even more joy into gifting.

1. For the eco-warriors

This time of year can cause a lot of eco-anxiety, especially for those who are highly planet-conscious in their lifestyle choices. Knowing how to do Christmas with minimum environmental impact is a challenge, but the abundant benefits of sustainable gifting make it worth every effort. Six hundred eighty-eight thousand tonnes of waste end up in landfills at Christmas, including wrapping paper, packaging, and food waste. Choosing gifts from eco-friendly brands like Panda, who consider their carbon footprint at every stage of production, will ensure they enjoy their presents, knowing the planet is being taken care of.

2. For the beauty sleep lovers

Tis’ the season to get snuggly, so why not get your loved ones set up the cosiest bedtimes? If there is one thing we all want to do more of in the holidays, it’s sleep and having the best bedding will make sure it’s as comfy as possible. Our soft, silky Bamboo Eye Mask makes Christmas naps a dream. The sustainable fabric is thermoregulating, lightweight and hypoallergenic, so it is nice and gentle on the skin. And this year has seen some revolutionary breakthroughs in sustainable sleep tech like our Hybrid Bamboo Pillow. Our Hybrid is the best pillow to ensure healthy alignment, with antibacterial CharcoCell Foam™ and O2 MicroPods™ to optimise freshness and airflow. That’s two stocking fillers done and dusted.

3. For the bathroom diva’s

This is the most indulgent time of year for those who love a pamper. However, coming out of the tub can be chilly. Soft, fluffy Bamboo Bath Towels will keep your loved ones nice and snug as they dry off. And to warm up cold bathroom floors? Our plush, eco-friendly bamboo rug is heaven on feet and an oh-so-fancy Christmas gift to find under the tree. Combining our skin-friendly bath range with natural bath oils and body creams will keep the skin nice and hydrated. Choosing eco-friendly and natural ingredients is better for the environment and tends to be far more gentle on the skin and our planet, which we all need to keep in our hearts this time of year.

4. For the trendsetters

This year, it’s all about making planet-friendly choices from sustainable materials and preloved products. Instead of buying your trendy friends and loved ones new clothes, why not give them vouchers to rent stylish outfits (like the New Year party dress) from preloved stores? Choosing sustainable fabrics like bamboo for bedding PJs and sustainably sourced resources will keep your gifting on trend and help reduce the excessive levels of waste the festive period causes. You can choose preloved products on everything from mattresses to sofas online, browse, and find the trendiest gifts to keep your loved ones and our planet smiling.

5. For the green dreamers

We have the perfect gift for those who love their sleep as much as the planet. Our Hybrid Bamboo Mattress, released early this year, is an eco-friendly bedtime game changer. Made in the UK from responsibly sourced materials, the mattress harnesses the unique properties of fresh bamboo-infused memory foam (BioCell Foam™), maximising breathability, while OrthoAlign Foam™ keeps sleepers in perfect alignment. Seven zones of pocket springs isolate movement for those who share a bed, and the soft, smooth bamboo cover seals the mattress in hypoallergenic, naturally antibacterial comfort. Arriving in fully recycled packaging with free delivery and disposal of old mattresses, every green dreamer is guaranteed a good night’s sleep this Christmas.

Giving back during Christmas

While at Christmas, it’s easy to get swept up in all the fun and chaos – it’s an essential time of year to remember those less fortunate. Making charitable donations can make a big difference to someone’s day. Small donations to homeless charities can help provide the homeless with a hot meal and a place to rest. Donating to organisations like the British Health Foundation can make a big difference to someone’s future. Take a moment to consider where you could give back this Christmas, another way to make the world a happier place at this magic time of year.

A final festive note

Fabulous Christmas gifts aside, if there is one thing we can all give each other more of this season, it is time. With the rush of lights going up and busy stores, it’s easy to forget what Christmas is all about, which is coming together to celebrate. And no matter what we find under the tree, there is no better gift than laughing, eating and being merry with our nearest and dearest.

Have a wonderful Christmas, everyone!

3 Merry Ideas for a Sustainable Christmas https://pandalondon.com/3-merry-ideas-for-a-sustainable-christmas/ Tue, 14 Dec 2021 12:15:00 +0000 https://pandalondon.com/?p=99393

‘Christmas is in the heart’

It’s the most wonderful time of year, though, without bursting your bauble… it’s not always the most sustainable. The season to be jolly can be, well… the least joyful for our planet. Wildlife and Countryside reported that up to 114,000 tonnes of plastic packaging is thrown away every Christmas. That’s 3.3 million penguins in plastic waste! The good news is together, we can make a difference without losing the magic of the season. From eco-gifting to delicious vegan recipes, plenty of planet-friendly ways exist to get into the festive spirit! So grab yourself a mince pie and read on – here are five merry ideas for a sustainable Christmas.

Green food for thought

A belly-busting 4 million Christmas dinners go to waste yearly in the UK. That’s over 2 million turkeys! Now, there is no need to go hungry; what’s Christmas without a food coma? However, being mindful about what you eat is a delicious way to make Christmas more sustainable. Just ask Josie Clemens. Josie is an international vegan chef on a mission to create a better world. How? By instilling vegan menus in all major chains and restaurant groups and looking to make your diet a little more eco-friendly? Swap prawn cocktails for her Zero waste soup bread bowl this Christmas!

A few more tips…

  • Good things come to those who plan, and Santa is watching… write a shopping list and try to stick to it! Do you need those extra twiglets and tub of Roses?
  • Check those best-before dates. Please ensure they are not before Christmas, especially all the finger food! Keep your belly full, though. Try to keep the bin empty!
  • The gift of giving… can’t bear to look at another potato? Instead of throwing food away, donating to food banks is a generous way to make Christmas more sustainable.

Get eco-friendly at home

Tis’ the season to get cosy… of course it is! However, keep the planet at heart as you snuggle up with a glass of eggnog… We all need to be mindful of keeping our homes more sustainable. Go for planet-friendly resources like bamboo, becoming the go-to for seriously soft bedding and homeware. And it’s no surprise as to why – feel it. Switching up your bedding for bamboo is a winner, winner Christmas dinner for you and the planet! And after wrapping all those presents and festive fun, you will want something silky soft to lay down your sweet head. Haven’t quite finished those Christmas present lists yet? Well, here’s a merry idea… you will find eco-friendly bed sets, eye masks and snoozing essentials galore right here on our site.

A few more tips…

Deck the halls with decorations that will last a lifetime – think wood, fabric, and glass over plastic and PVC. The best bit? They can be popped in a box and put back on the tree next year! Speaking of tree’s….

Go real – A sustainable Christmas doesn’t come much greener than choosing a real tree!

Make your cuppa ethical – There will be plenty of putting your feet up with a good cuppa over Christmas. Make it planet-friendly by using vegan milk like oat, almond, or coconut. Perfect with a few Xmas choccies.

Go planet-friendly on gift wrap

When it comes to wrapping presents, you either love or hate it. Let’s face it: part of the fun of the big day is tearing off the paper. Who doesn’t love guessing what’s in the pretty wrapped boxes under the tree? Though wrapping paper and packaging can play a big part in the tonnes of waste that comes with Christmas. The good news? Searches for sustainable wrapping paper are on the up. Those presents won’t wrap themselves if you’re after somewhere to start making Christmas more sustainable. While we can’t provide elves, why not try one of these planet-friendly wrapping tips?

Go for an eco-friendly alternative – environmentally-minded brands have devised wonderfully kinder ways to wrap your gifts. Look for those using sustainable materials and embrace the spirit of planet-friendly gifting.

Waste not, want not – those straggly bits at the end of the roll that won’t quite wrap a box, don’t throw them away! Add them to other parts and put your style on pressies – call it ‘sustainable wrapping’.

Keep gift bags – Not a fan of wrapping? Save yourself the Sellotape and use gift bags instead. And remember not to throw this year’s away…it reduces waste, and you never know when you might need one.

Gift differently

It wouldn’t be Christmas without the gifts, would it? Despite it not being the most important part of the festive season, gifts are a big part of the celebrations. And when you’re thinking about what to buy for people, think a little differently this year. Opt for more sustainable gifts, and be sure to put a lot of thought into your choices rather than buying for the sake of buying.

Here are a few ideas to get you started…

  • Choose experiences over things – most people don’t need more *stuff*. Fancy smellies, a multitool, another pair of slippers… these things often gather dust or end up being thrown away. Consider gifting experiences like a voucher for a spa treatment or tickets to a concert.
  • Gifts that give back – another option is buying from businesses that donate to charity and give back to local communities. This might include brands with the Fairtrade logo or charity shops themselves. Shopping secondhand is another fantastic way to gift sustainably!
  • Buy zero-waste giftsshop for gifts specifically labelled as zero-waste. This might be reusable straws, cotton pads, digital subscriptions, or biodegradable products like phone cases or toothbrushes.

Try a virtual Christmas

A new trend that we’ve seen popping up is the idea of a virtual Christmas. Rather than driving or flying to see friends/family (and contributing to your carbon footprint!), you could opt to have a Zoom celebration instead – dinner, drinks, charades, cookie decorating… it can all be done via video chat, which is especially helpful if you’re trying to save money too. It’s something worth thinking about.

Well, that’s a wrap!

It only happens once a year, so please get stuck and make the most of it. May your Christmas be filled with love, joy and magic – in short, keep the planet in your hearts and homes while enjoying all the fun.

Merry Christmas!
